Endoscopic
upper face lift
" A shapelier upper face with
brighter eyes "

Rather than a long text,
we thought we would answer
the most commonly-asked
questions as concretely
and objectively as possible.
Dr Frederic Sarfati answers
your questions

I) Before treatment
Back
|
1. Why would I have an Endoscopic upper
face lift ? |
|
« As time passes, lines in this part of the face start to
appear horizontally and
between the eyebrows which
often change the facial
expression. The eyebrows
fall and narrow the eyes;
cheeks lose volume and
slip down and lines appear.
This can give a worried,
severe or sad expression
to the face. »
|
2. How do you find out what my needs are ?
|
|
« Before treatment, we discuss what would be suitable. We use both recent
and older photos and remorph
them so I can advise you
on how we get a nice natural-looking
result that fits with your
face. » |
3.
Does
an upper face lift make
me look younger ? How long
do the effects last ? |
|
« This treatment smoothes out the forehead and the eyebrow line without
changing the person's
expression. By lifting
the cheeks it opens the
face and the gaze, it
looks naturally younger
again, losing 8-10 years.
We could at the same time
do a middle and lower
lift, to tighten the skin
and muscles of the lower
cheeks and neck region.
The effects are very stable
and last well over 10
years. »
|
4.
How
do you get natural-looking
results ? |
|
« What is important is knowing how to get the right expression. Too much
pulling around in this
zone can make you look
surprised; however, by
just raising the eyebrow
ends, we can lift the
gaze, giving it sparkle
and enhancing the expression.
The aim is to soften the
face while leaving its
personality intact. »
|
5.
Do I need a medical examination before treatment ?
|
|
« During
your preparatory consultation
with the anaesthetist
or the surgeon, we will
ask you for the results
of a general medical examination,
to spot any medical contraindications.
And you should take no
aspirin or anti inflammatory
medicines for ten days
prior to your visit. »

II ) During treatment :
Back
|
6.
How
long will I stay at the
clinic ?
|
|
« You will be in the clinic for 24 hours,
leaving the day after
the treatment. »
|
7.
How long does the treatment last ?
|
|
« About
two and a half hours,
depending on whether we
do any work on the eyelids.
»
|
8.
What kind of anaesthetic do you recommend ?
|
|
« We would use a general anaesthetic
together with a local. »
|
| |
 |
9.
What will happen during the treatment ? |
|
« This
is Endoscopic treatment;
this allows us to see
the instruments by mini
camera, slid in through
small incisions. This
innovative technique is
less invasive and frees
the expression by smoothing
out the forehead and upper
eyelids.
Repositioning and filling
out the cheek will give
contour to this zone.
Reshaping like this makes
a lot of excess skin on
the lower eyelid, so we
take it off. The lower
eyelid is then shorter,
the lines smooth out,
the cheek is youthfully
raised. The lower eyelid's
edge levels out, released
by the cheek's new, higher
position. We could call
this a cheek lift . »
|
10.
What are the risks ?
|
|
« The risk of bruising is slight for this
type of face lift. We
also prescribe antibiotics
two days before the treatment
until the seventh day
after, to prevent infection.
The eyebrows might have
a slightly reduced mobility
for two to three weeks.
You may feel a slight
reduction in sensation
in the forehead, cheeks
and possibly the upper
lip which will go away
after a few months. Any
risks linked to the anaesthetic
used will be discussed
during consultation with
the anaesthetist, before
treatment . »
|
11.
What risks of phlebitis (deep vein thrombosis)
are there ?
|
|
« There is a very low risk
of phlebitis for this
type of treatment. It
consists of a blood clot
appearing in the deep
veins of the leg, which
can detach and move to
the lungs, causing a lung
embolism. We can effectively
deal with this risk using
anti-coagulants and support
stockings during you whole
stay. During the treatment,
we also do leg massages.
So far, we have had no
cases of phlebitis at
all. »

After treatment

|
12.
Will there be any scars ?
|
|
« This is a very sophisticated technique and it considerably
limits scarring and discomfort.
Four discreet scars of
about 12 mm each will
be hidden in the hair
surrounding the forehead. »
|
13.
Will it
be painful ?
|
|
« This
is not painful treatment
but the swelling is uncomfortable
for a few days. »
|
14.
How
quickly will I see the results ?
|
|
« Results
will be 85% complete after
two weeks, some residual
bruising may take up to
three months to dissipate. »
|
15. How
often will I need check
ups ?
|
|
« After leaving the clinic, there will
be two consultations in
two weeks, then regular
follow up for six months.
We need to survey progress,
take out certain stitches
on the 6th day and others
on the 14th. You can of
course make an appointment
at any other time. »
|
16.
What do you do to protect the treatment zone
? will I have to wear bandages ?
|
|
« Adhesive
surgical tape is used
to maintain the forehead's
and the cheeks' new position
and to limit bruising.
As far as possible, the
eyes should be bandaged
on the first night to
limit bruising in the
upper eyelids. We sometimes
use steristrips to support
the forehead, temples,
cheeks and lower eyelids
in their new position.
They are removed after
six to eight days. »
|
17.
What care should I take afterwards ?
|
|
« We prescribe antibiotics for
six days, mouth washes
six times a day, ordinary
pain killers and Arnica
granules for two weeks. »
|
18.
How
soon can I start work again ?
|
|
« You
can start work after three
or four days but you will
probably want to restart
your social life only
after eight to 12 days. »
|
19.
Should
I avoid physical activity ?
|
|
« You
can start your sports
regime again after a month. »
|
20. Is
this treatment reimbursable
on my health insurance ? |
|
« You
will have to consult your
local health authorities
and your private health
insurers to see if you
can be supported financially
following a serious accident,
for example. »
