Inside thigh/knee liposuction
" Slimmer shapelier thighs and
knees "
|
|
|
 |

Rather than a long text,
we thought we would answer
the most commonly-asked
questions as concretely
and objectively as possible.
Dr Frederic Sarfati answers
your questions
Ex Head of Clinic, Hospitals
of Paris
Fellow of the Endoscopic
Plastic Surgery Center Baltimore,

I) Before treatment
Back
|
1. Why would I have inside thigh/knee
liposuction ?
|
|
« If in spite of regular exercise and good dieting, weight
still has not gone from
your inner thighs and
knee areas. This may happen
after age 25 or following
pregnancy. Skin there
may also be fragile, as
it is often mobile and
might be loose. In this
case you may like to consider
lifting the skin there,
too. »
|
2. How
do you find out what my
needs are ?
|
|
« Before treatment, we discuss what would be suitable. We use both recent
and older photos and remorph
them so I can advise you
on how we get a nice natural-looking
result that fits with your
figure. » |
3.
Will inside thigh/knee liposuction make my
figure look younger ? How
long do the effects last ? |
|
« Wearing a skirt or at the beach, your legs will be slimmer, look longer
and more youthful, with
a smooth line all the
way down from thigh to
knee to calf. Eliminating
excess weight on the inside
thighs and knees will
also reduce rubbing there.
»
|
4.
How
will you get natural-looking
results ? |
|
« The most important thing is to look at the skin's ability to adapt to
the new leg shape. It
may be preferable to keep
some fullness of shape
and make sure the skin
is still tight and smooth,
rather than reduce too
much and have the skin
too loose. The other thing
is to make sure knee and
thigh are treated at the
same time, to achieve
a good smooth line all
the way down the thigh,
knee and calf. »
|
5.
Do I need a medical examination before treatment ?
|
|
« During
your preparatory consultation
with the anaesthetist
or the surgeon, we will
ask you for the results
of a general medical examination
to spot any medical contraindications.
You should take no aspirin
or anti inflammatory medicines
for ten days prior to
your visit. »

II ) During treatment :
Back
|
6.
How
long do I stay at the clinic ? |
|
« As the procedure is mostly done under
local anaesthetic, you
would leave the clinic
the same evening. A light
epidural or general would
mean an overnight stay.
»
|
7.
How long will the treatment last ? |
|
« This
is delicate treatment
and lasts one to two hours,
depending on the work
to be done. »
|
8.
What
kind of anaesthetic do you
recommend ? |
|
« Either a local, a light epidural
or a general anaesthetic,
depending on how much
work is to be done. »
|
9.
What
happens during the treatment ? |
|
« Firstly we inject an anaesthetic vasoconstriction
fluid into the treatment
zone. Then comes a fine
tube of 3 or 4mm through
a minute opening in the
skin. Then we quite literally
vacuum the fat out with
it, moving it back and
forth across the entire
area to be treated. Using
the fine tube takes longer
but results are much better.
»
|
10.
What scars will be visible ? |
|
« There will be minor scarring, 8mm long
each, hidden in the body/thigh
fold and also on the inside
thigh and knee. »
|
11.
What are the risks ? |
|
« The only real risk is
of bruising, which is
quite frequent (haematomas
being very rare). By prescribing
antibiotics from two days
before to seven days after
treatment we eliminate
risk of infection. Particular
care has to be taken with
fuller-bodied patients
or with those with sequels
of obesity or heavy tobacco
use.
Sensitivity in the area
may be modified temporarily.
Rare cases of ripple effect
can be dealt with by massage
or so called m6 treatment.
Very rarely we might carry
out a mini liposuction
at 6 months to finish
off the work. Any risks
associated with the anaesthetic
will be clarified during
pre-treatment interviews
. »
|
12.
What risks of phlebitis (deep vein thrombosis)
are there ?
|
|
« There is a very low risk
of phlebitis for this
type of treatment. It
consists of a blood clot
appearing in the deep
veins of the leg, which
can detach and move to
the lungs, causing a lung
embolism. We can effectively
deal with this risk using
anti-coagulants and support
stockings during your
whole stay. During the
treatment, we also do
leg massages. So far,
we have had no cases of
phlebitis at all. »
|
| |
|
III )
After treatment
:
Back

|
13.
Will it be painful ?
|
|
« This
is moderately painful
treatment, rated at 3
on a scale of 0-10 by
patients. This is easily
treated locally with pain
killing creams. »
|
14.
How quickly will I see the results ?
|
|
« You
will see most of the results
(60%) immediately but
residual swelling will
only disappear after about
three months. You might
see bruising appear in
48 hours and dissipate
slowly (three weeks). »
|
15. How often will I have to come back ?
|
|
« You will have a check up after 10 days,
then three weeks, then
every six months. Of course
you can make an appointment
at any other time too.
»
|
16.
What
do you do to protect the
treatment zone ? will I
have to wear bandages ? |
|
« You
will only have to wear
an elastic panty for two
weeks day and night. You
can shower with it on
as it is quite tight,
and dries very quickly
with warm towels or even
a hair dryer. »
|
17.
What care should I take afterwards ?
|
|
« You can start to shower after
48 hours, and the little
plasters covering the
scars will drop off after
10 days or so, you do
not have to replace them. »
|
18.
How
soon can I start work again ? |
|
« You
can start work after three
days. »
|
19.
Should
I avoid physical activity ?
|
|
« You
can start gym after three
weeks and more strenuous
activities after six. »
|
20. Is
this treatment reimbursable
on my health insurance ? |
|
« You
will have to consult your
local health authorities
and your private health
insurers to see if you
can be supported financially
following a serious illness
or congenital deformation,
for example. »
